“Go Duet Yourself”

Hey blog world! Last night I was at the Masonic Temple! Me and my Mom, Cousin and her Niece were there to see Spirit of Newfoundlands production of “Go Duet Yourself” Go Duet Yourself! It’d been 2 years since I’d last seen a Spirit of Newfoundland production (the last one was “ABBA Gotta Get The Scoop”) and I was super glad to be back again last night to see this show! Last month Peter Halley (who I have a crush on)Peter Halley celebrated a Birthday so I decided to make him a belated Birthday card and give it to him that night. I was originally going to give it to him after the show but he came out before the show started to talk to the guy behind the camera (the show was being filmed so they had someone standing in the back with a video camera.) As soon as he came out my heart began to race! It was going a mile a minute! I adore him that much! After he was finished talking to the camera man I flagged him over to my table so I could give him the card I’d made for him. When he got it he was thrilled! He said that I’d made his night! Just by saying that I made his night he made mine! He also hugged me! I was on cloud 9! A short while after I gave Peter his card the meal began. The appetizer was a salad. It had all kinds of yummy things in it! I wasn’t a big fan of the dressing though so I asked for one without. Later on when it was time for the main course I ordered the stuffed chicken. it was awesome! It had cranberries, dressing and lots of other stuff. I really enjoyed it. It came with potatoes, broccoli and carrotts. The carrotts were a bit spicy but not too bad. I really liked the potatoes! After the meal it was time for the show! I really enjoyed it! Shelley Neville Shelley and Peter began the show by singing the “All In The Family” theme song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oV5LQcmuGg8. They did a great job of it! Darrin Martin and Sheila Williams (the 2 other people in the show) did a great job of singing too! I loved when Peter and Darrin sang “Cecillia” by Simon and Garfunkel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5_QV97eYqM. Even though they left out the first verse.Sheila was an excellent Anne Murray. She sang “Daydream Believer” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gN37gEKDrM and I was astounded at how beautiful she sounded! She then invited KD Lang out to sing a duet with her. I thought it was going to be Shelley but to my surprise it was Darrin as KD Lang LOL! He actually looked quite good! They sang “A Love Song” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tboKB6DzzD4. We were really lucky last night because we got to see Frank Sinatra (Peter) in a recording session with Julio Iglesias (Darrin). They sang “Summer Wind” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i67ISZKp2iY. Darrins fake Spanish accent was so cool! Peter then asked the audience if they knew of any other duets Julio did with an American artist. My hand shot right up. Peter called on me to answer and I said “He did “To All The Girls I Loved Before” with Willie Nelson” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51tvZnkn5V8. Peter was amazed at how I knew that! He said I was very smart. That made me smile! They then sang the song. Because Darrin messed up the words (purposly to make the audience laugh) they stopped. Peter did a very very special duet. A one sided one. The man did all the singing while the woman sat there and looked pretty. It was “Hello Darling” by Conway Twitty http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og1QRtcWdEY. Sheila picked a random girl out of the audience to be Loretta Lynn. I was so jealous of her! I wanted so badly to sit next to Peter put my arm around him and have him serenade me with one of my favorite songs! Before the intermission the cast did a little skit. They said they were all hungry and were going to order out. The meals they were ordering were heart attacks waiting to happen! There was so much grease and gravy and such! Peter ordered a hamburger platter with poutine and I can’t remember what Sheila or Darrin ordered but all Shelley wanted was a few pieces of lettuce. Sheila had to go and poutine that too! With all that unhealthy, fatty and greasy food I thought neither of them would make it to act 2! When the intermission started it was time for desert. It was a Newfoundland trifle. It had jello, fruit, whipped cream, custard and some kind of cake. I ate around the jello since I don’t like it but everything else was really good! I also had a nice cup of tea. When the 2nd act started they did lots more awesome duets! They did a few songs by the Carpenters (“We’ve Only Just Begun” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JgEptmz_eE, “Rainy Days and Mondays” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjFoQxjgbrs and “Top Of The World” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDPMmaHWj1I.) They also did a few Everly Brothers songs. “Wake Up Little Suzy” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CByPkTZtnzU and “Bye Bye Love” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6ZO4MORrNM. They also did a parody of “Bye Bye Love” which one of the members of their band wrote. It was called “Bye Bye Grub”. I can’t remember all the words but I do remember this part. “Bye bye grub bye bye chicken leg hello Jenny Craig I think I’m gonna die bye bye my grub goodbye” LOL! I thought it was hillarious! They also did “The Ballad of Jed Clampett” by Flatt and Scruggs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkRkGCm4atE. A few times during the song they stopped singing and pointed the microphone towards the audience so we could fill in their blank. I knew all the words! A man sitting at the table next to me was amazed by this! He tapped me on the shoulder and asked how I knew all the words. I said it was thanks to my Dad because he introduced me to all this old music. Sheila Williams got to be Tina Turner and I thought she looked so cool! She invited Rod Stewart (Darrin) out and I was thrilled when they sang “Hot Legs” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHcjjxYbgNM because that’s my FAVORITE Rod Stewart song! They also did “Proud Mary” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmH4YlNdWAg. That was super awesome! Here’s a picture of them in their costumes Go Duet Yourself 006 Peter and Shelley got to be Kenny and Dolly Go Duet Yourself 001. They sang “Islands In The Stream” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQW7I62TNOw. I have no idea how Peter was able to sing this song because he had a stocking over his face LOL! He loked so funny! I can’t imagine how hard it must have been to sing with that on his face! He still did a great job though. As did Shelley. Shelley also got to sing a Newfoundland song! She did “The Northern Lights Of Labrador” by Corey and Trina http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5ZRyWGRVqY. It sounded beautiful! The entire cast got to sing “Paradise By The Dashboard Lights” by Meatloaf http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C11MzbEcHlw and I loved it! I was dancing in my seat and singing along the whole time! They also did “Time Of My Life” from “Dirty Dancing” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMoMBFhMdDw. I loved that one too! At the end of the show Peter told the audience about the Birthday card that I’d made for him! Everyone clapped and that made me feel awesome! I’m so glad he liked it! When the show was over I got to get a picture with the cast. Peter said “I want to stand next to Leah!” I was hoping he’d say that! It made me feel so happy that he wanted to be next to me as much as I wanted to be next to him! Here’s the picture we got together Go Duet Yourself 010. Shelley is the one on the left in the Red, Darrin is next to Sheila, I’m next to Darrin, Peter is next to me and Sheila is next to Peter. I also got everyones autographs. My Barbie book is full so I took along my little pink one with flowers on it. Darrin thought it was cute! That made me smile! Him, Peter and Sheila signed it. Shelley took off backstage to get changed. Thankfully Peter ran back and got her autograph for me. That was so nice of him! Then I went into the Screech Room (I think that’s where I was) and talked to Peter for a while before I left. I asked why they didn’t do “Golden Ring” by Tammy Wynette and George Jones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9KniULwvjE. I was hoping to hear it but they didn’t do it. He said that they had done that one in previous shows and it was a great song but he couldn’t fit it into this one. Oh well! Maybe next time! We also talked about school. He’s an ex teacher. He said that he taught music and French! I had no idea he was a French teacher! You learn something new everyday! After talking to Peter I said goodbye and went home. I had such a great night and will definately come back to the Masonic Temple to see another one of Spirit of Newfoundlands shows! Have you seen “Go Duet Yourself”? Did you enjoy the show? Tell me in the comments!
