My Birthday Party 2015

Hey blog world! Last night was a wonderful night! I had my Birthday party! My Birthday was last Friday but we had the party last night.

I was going to do a throwback theme and have everyone come dressed up in outfits from past decades but one day as I was walking through Dollarama I saw a really pretty, red, sparkly masquerade mask. That made me change my mind and decide instead to throw a masquerade ball!

This is what I woreMasquerade dress, the dress is the same one that I wore to my prom and the mask came from my mom. I think I looked stunning! A lot of my friends and their parents thought so  too. That made me smile.

I was surprised that there wasn’t a big turnout this year. I think I had 6 or 7 people. I usually have many more than that! Oh well! We all still had a lot of fun! My boyfriend Glen showed up, a few of my friends from Special Olympics came, my niece brought a few friends, my friend Emma came and my new Best Buddy Machaela came too! I was really happy that she made it!!! Most of them wore masks but there were a few that didn’t. Those who wore masks looked amazing! I loved each of their masks.

Even though I scrapped my throwback theme I kept the same playlist. Who doesn’t love 60’s, 70’s and 80’s music?! My DJ (my friend Heather) played lots of awesome tunes! “Isn’t She Lovely“, “Wannabe” and “Gloria” were some of my favorite dances of the night.

Two of the dances were really special, “Knock Three Times” being one of them. When that song came on it was just my mom, dad and me out on the floor dancing together. I really liked that. The other really special dance was “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You”. It’s me and Glen’s song!

Pizza came around 8:00. Domino’s is my preferred pizza place but we got a pizza from Pronto. They are 2nd best in my opinion. We all really enjoyed the pizza. The cake was delicious too! This year I baked my own cake. It was half white and half chocolate. I’ve recently developed a love for splatter painting so that’s what I decided to do on my cake. I mixed cool whip with food coloring and created several differently colored cool whips and splattered the colored cool whip onto the cake with a barbecue brush. This is how it turned out. splatter cake It was really yummy!

After cake it was time for presents. I loved reading all the cards and the nice messages inside them. I got lots of really nice presents as well. My friend Grant gave me two jigsaw puzzles! One is of a vintage Pepsi vending cart and the other of a lighthouse surrounded by waves. They both look really nice. Machaela gave me an adult coloring book with lots of pretty pictures of flowers! I’m really looking forward to coloring some of those pictures! Emma gave me a really pretty music notes Christmas ornament. That’s definitely going on the tree this year! From Glen I got a new wallet and some body spray, my niece’s friend Joey gave me a few bottles of acrylic paint (I’m an artist) and from my niece Samantha I got my favorite VeggieTales movie, “It’s A Meaningful Life” Meaningful Life!!! It’s such a beautiful movie! It’s currently on Netflix and I’ve watched it multiple times because I love it that much. I put it on my Birthday list because nothing lasts on Netflix. I have the movie forever now! Yay!

We played a few games at my party as well. One of them was a best mask contest. My masked friends all stood in a line and everyone voted on which mask was the best. We ended up with a three way tie! My niece and her friends (they entered as a group), Machaela and Katie all had four votes! I put their names into a hat and drew for 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes. Katie got 3rd, Samantha and her friends got 2nd and Machaela got 1st! We did a spot dance and freeze dance too.

Eventually, sadly, the night came to an end. I said goodbye to my friends as they left and thanked them for coming and for the lovely cards and gifts. I had such a wonderful night last night and was glad that they were all there and helped to make it so special! Thank you to everyone who came and I’m so glad you all had a good time. Me too!

What I Want For My Birthday

Hey blog world! Tomorrow is a big day! I turn 18!!! I can’t believe it! My life is going by really fast! I’ve been asked a lot recently what I’d like for my Birthday so I thought I would do a post about that here.

Sock monkeys. I collect them! I think they’re really cute.

An adult coloring book: I love to color. It’s very relaxing. Even though coloring SpongeBob is fun, I’d like to try one of these new adult coloring books. I’ve looked at some of them and the pictures are so pretty!

New flats. I desperately need these!! The soles of my current, and only pair are destroyed! There are holes in them and they are no longer attached to the inside of my shoe! I dress semi-formally for work (the dress code doesn’t say I have to, jeans are fine but I like looking nice for work) and will hopefully be returning to work during Christmas break. I don’t wear high heels for fear of breaking my neck so a new pair of flats is a must!

VeggieTales movies: I love VeggieTales! They are such funny movies! They have great lessons in them too. My boyfriend and I watch VeggieTales together all the time! It’s one of our favorite things to do together. I’m really hoping to get “It’s A Meaningful Life” for my Birthday. It’s their take on “It’s A Wonderful Life” and the lesson of this movie is that God has a plan for your life. Everything happens for a reason. A football playing cucumber named Stuart gets injured during a game and loses his chance at playing in the salad bowl and gaining fame and fortune. Years later, though he’s happy with his new job in his father’s toy factory he wonders what if things were different and he won the game instead of getting hurt. He meets a train conductor with the ability to turn back time and he goes on a journey to find out. This movie is beautiful! Every time Stuart sings “Precious Girl” to his adopted daughter I come so close to crying! I’d also like to get “Rack, Shack and Benny”. This one is the story of Rack, Shack and Benny who work in a chocolate factory and are thrown into a firey furnace by their boss for not singing “The Bunny Song” and worshipping a giant chocolate bunny.

Canvases: I’m a painter. I would like some more canvases for my Birthday because I’m full of ideas but have no canvases left to paint them on.

Scattergories: I took basic math in grade 11 and the teacher said “Who likes doing math on Fridays? Especially last period!” Our last period Friday classes were devoted to playing games! Somedays it was Family Feud but my favorites were the days we got to play Scattergories! It was a lot of fun and I was really good at it! I’d love to get this game for my Birthday so I can play it at home.

A gift card to Posie Row: Posie Row is a fabulous little boutique in Downtown St. John’s. They have the cutest hats! I’m really big on hats and wear them often. I loved to window shop at Posie Row every now and again after work. I never could get anything because a lot of the things I had my eye on were out of my price range! With a gift card I can get some stylish new hats to add to my wardrobe.

A sloth puppet Sloth: I saw this at Chapters and my heart melted!! It’s adorable! This would be nice to cuddle at night. Also, I have a cheerleader puppet named Megan Megan and I think it would be lots of fun to put off a puppet show with her and Sheila (that’s what I plan on naming the sloth should I get her) for my friends in the special needs classroom at school. I think they would really enjoy that.

What I want most of all for my Birthday is to be together with my family. Family togetherness is what I love most about my Birthday. Getting gifts is nice but spending my special day with the ones I love is even better! I’m so happy that I get what I’m asking for and will be spending the evening with my family tomorrow! For supper we are going out to a new Chinese restaurant that recently opened in CBS and then coming home to have cheesecake (my favorite kind of cake) and watch me open presents. Time spent with my family is very special to me and I cherish every moment.

Buddy Wasisname

Hey blog world! Today, I have been challenged to write a story in 100 words. This story is true and I call it “Buddy Wasisname”

I got a job as a theatre correspondant for my friends up and coming YouTube news show called “Perspectives”. On Sunday I went to Spirit of Newfoundland to do a segment on their new Christmas show. While there, I did an interview with John Williams, Spirit’s newest cast member. The camera rolled and I said “I’m now here with…” and my mind went blank! Remember this SpongeBob scene? That was my brain! I stared blankly for a few seconds then embarrassedly said “Holy cow! I’ve forgotten your name!” I turned red, we both laughed and John and I reintroduced ourselves.

That certainly was a moment worthy of the blooper reel LOL! Has anything like that ever happened to you? Tell me in the comments!

Virtual Tea #2

Hey blog world! Nice to see you! I’m glad we could come to Spirit of Newfoundland again to enjoy some tea and screech cake and catch up! It’s been a while since we last did. This is what’s been going on in my life since then.

I’m in my 4th year of High School. I would have graduated last year but I didn’t pass World History. Reason being, I found it difficult and boring! I had to come back to High School and do it again. It’s going really well! With the help of my fantastic tutor Peter Halley Peter Halley I’m rocking the course! I’m finding it easier to understand and I’m actually interested by what I’m learning now! Unit 2 was the most interesting so far (World War 2, the Russian Revolution, Hitler). I’m very proud to say that I’m getting really good grades (I got an 80 on the first quiz we had back in September!) I took a supplementary exam two weeks ago and I’m very anxious to find out those results. I studied really hard for it by myself and with Peter. I found it easy! The multiple choices were a piece of screech cake! I’m pretty sure I did a good job but am admittedly a little nervous to find out! If I pass the exam I can drop out of my 4th year of High School, go back to work at Spirit and go to college in the fall to study Early Childhood Education. Fingers crossed that I passed!

I’m getting older! I’m finding this really hard to believe but on Friday I’ll be 18!!! Where the firetruck has my life gone?! To celebrate I’m going to have a masquerade ball next weekend! I’m really looking forward to a night of dancing with my friends! I can’t wait to see their masks! For my Birthday this year I’d like another sock monkey to add to my collection, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School” (Wimpy Kid is my favorite book series), some VeggieTales movies (I’m really hoping for “Rack, Shack and Benny” and “It’s A Meaningful Life”) and a gift card to Posie Row, a fabulous little boutique in Downtown St. John’s that sells some really nice hats! My favorite part of my Birthday is the family party we have. When there’s a Birthday in my family we all get together and go out to eat at the restaurant of the Birthday celebrater’s choosing. I love spending time with my family! This year I’d like to have Chinese food. Either Crystal Jade or Golden Phoenix. Both of them are delicious!

Christmas is coming! Christmas is my favorite season. I look forward to jamming out to “Step Into Christmas” (my favorite Christmas song), watching “Rudolph” and “Muppet Christmas Carol” and seeing what kind of mischief our elf on the shelf Patches will get himself into this year! Mostly, I look forward to the time I’ll get to spend with my family during the holiday season! Baking snowballs, santa hats and other delicious Christmas cookies with mom, putting the tree up as a family, our family tradition of watching the Jim Carey version of “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” on Christmas Eve, watching my family open their gifts and seeing the smiles on their faces and visiting family on boxing day to catch up with them and see what they received.

This year will be a crafty Christmas for me! I’ve recently become addicted to Pinterest and have found some really cute DIY projects to make for everyone on my list! Homemade gifts are 1000 times better than anything that comes from a store! I’m looking forward to getting crafty and making the presents. I’m also looking forward to seeing the reaction on my friends faces when I give them what I made. It makes me smile when I make other people smile! It also makes me feel really good inside knowing that they love something that I made them. The day I make these crafts I plan on making a how to video to show you how to do them too! I’ll post that up here when I make it!

My sister is coming home!!! My sister Crista, her husband Ben and 1 year old son Lincoln live in Australia. It’s very rare when I get to see them! I’ve only ever seen Lincoln via Skype! He wasn’t born last time we all got together. I can’t wait to see him in person for the first time and hug him! I’m also really excited to see his reaction to snow! Being an aussie, Lincoln has never seen snow. I’m excited to help him make his first snow angel and help him have his first snowball fight!

Next month is my anniversary! My sweet boyfriend Glen and I will have been together for a year! Here we are on our first dateFirst date! Glen is an adorable gentleman with contageous laughter and a smile that can light up a room! He makes me very happy. I’m so glad we’re together! We’ve had so many memorable dates this year. Our second is the most memorable! We saw “Jesus Christ Superstar” together at the Arts and Culture Center in St. John’s. We were seated in the front row. When it was time for the intermission he stood up to collect his things, was a little off balance, stumbled backwards and almost fell into the orchestra pit right on top of the piano player!!! I’m so glad that I managed to grab him in time! Both of us look back and laugh at that now but he had me scared to death that night!

I’m finally realizing my dream of recording a CD! I love to sing and have wanted to record an album since I was little! I’m finally doing that! My friend owns a recording studio so I talked things over with him and sometime soon I will be heading into his studio to record! First of all though I’ll be in full on rehearsal and tweaking mode with Peter (aside from tutoring me in history he’s also my voice teacher) to finalize my track list and rehearse everything before I actually record! Because I’m a huge fan of Broadway musicals I will be covering my favorite showtunes on this CD! I’m going to call it “Broadway Dreams”! Some songs I have in mind to record are “Ring of Keys” from “Fun Home”, “I Could Have Danced All Night” from “My Fair Lady” and “Somewhere That’s Green” from “Little Shop of Horrors”. I’ve set up a GoFundMe page to raise the money I need to record this album! Please give a little if you can. I would really appreciate that!

Coolest of all I’m a journalist now!!! As I told you at our last tea and screech cake get together I’m part of a program called Buy My Art! which focuses mainly on helping local artists sell their work. The head of the program has decided to branch out and is starting a YouTube news show that will focus on local art and entertainment in Newfoundland. I met with him on Saturday and he said he wants me to be the theatre and music reporter!!! I of course said yes! How could I turn something as wicked awesome as that down?! Theatre is my passion! Getting to go behind the scenes of shows and interview local actors is a dream come true! So far I’ve done a piece on the open mic nights at All Saints parish hall and Spirit of Newfoundland’s Christmas show “Three Wise Men and Other Christmas Miracles” (click here for more info on that.) Spirit was my favorite piece that I filmed! It was incredible getting to watch the cast rehearse! They sound angelic! I can’t wait to see the show next month! Lined up next for me is a piece on the Best Buddies coffee house at MUN next Monday night (7:00 in the Loft, located on the 3rd floor of the MUN University Center. Please come support Best Buddies if you can!) and sometime soon a piece on Atlantic Light Theatre’s “Sister Act”! I get to film some of that rehearsal and interview some cast! Upcoming shows I would love to report on for “Perspectives” are “O Holy Night” my friend Shelley’s absolutely stunning, annual Christmas show and TaDa Events’ production of “Rock of Ages”! “Perspectives” is still a work in progress but according to the editor should be up within perhaps two weeks. I’ll post about it as soon as it gets up!

Your turn! Tell me in the comments what’s been up with you lately?
