“Saving Mr. Banks”

Hey blog world! I went to the movies with my friend Emma today. We were originally supposed to see the new Disney movie “Frozen”. Unfortunately when we arrived at the theatre and got into the ticket line I looked up at the screen that showed all the movie times and noticed that the 2:20 showing of “Frozen” we were supposed to see was sold out. We were then faced with the decision of which movie to see instead. Emma suggeseted seeing the new Hobbit movie “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” but I’m not into the Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit movies. It took us a few minutes but we finally decided upon seeing “Saving Mr. Banks” which is also a Disney movie. When it came time to see the movie we got our snacks then headed towards the theatre. The employee pointed us in the right direction but by mistake we accidentaly went into the wrong theatre. When we got inside there were barely any seats! I didn’t think that many people were seeing “Saving Mr. Banks” so I was a bit confused. Me and Emma found 2 seats in the front of the theatre. We sat down and the previews were rolling. We watched the last preview, saw the little ad from Cineplex hoping we’ll enjoy the film then it began. I was confused by this because it wasn’t supposed to start til 4:40 and it was 4:30. It started 10 minutese early! What I saw looked nothing like what I expected of “Saving Mr. Banks”. That really set me off. I whispered to Emma “This looks like “Catching Fire”. I think we’re in the wrong movie!” We went outside and looked and sure enough we were in “Catching Fire” and “Saving Mr. Banks” was in the theatre across the hall. We scrambled inside hoping not to have missed anything and thankfully we didn’t. The pre show was still on! When the movie started I was very impressed. It was an amazing movie! It’s the true story of the author of the “Mary Poppins” books P.L Travers and how her books turned into a movie. At times it was funny, other times it was a tad sad, also it was quite heartwarming as well. There were scenes in the film where P.L had flashbacks to her childhood and I thought those were beautiful. One of my favorite parts in the movie was when the songwriters for the film played “Lets Go Fly A Kite” and P.L danced with one of the people who was working on the film. It made me happy inside! When the movie was over I had difficulty finding words to describe how much I liked the movie. All I could think of was “Wow!” It was definately the best movie I’d seen this year! I highly reccommend seeing it. Have you seen it yet? What did you think of it? Tell me in the comments!

Christmas 2013

Hey blog world! Merry Christmas! I’ve had a great Christmas day so far. Christmas Eve was great as well. I got to spend it at Spirit of Newfoundland! Janet Cull (the lady I job shadowed) invited me to come back again and help her out. It was a very quiet, slow day. The only things that happened were we got were a few people buying gift cards and an occasional phone call. Also I got to make a sign on Microsoft Office saying that Spirit closes at 1:00 and opens again on the 27th. Even though we weren’t that busy and not too much happened I enjoyed myself. Later on after I had my supper Mom and my Niece and I got to do some Christmas baking. We made cookies and santa hats (2 bite brownies with whipped cream and strawberries.) To finish off our Christmas Eve we all sat down together on the couch like we do every year and watched “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” on NTV. The movie was on late and right in the middle my Niece and I got tired so we went to bed. I shared a room with my Niece since my Grandpa spent Christmas Eve with us. We had a bunk bed and I got the bottom. It was ok but I’m glad I haven’t got to sleep in it again tonight! This morning when I woke up I was very happy! The tree was full of gifts! The thing I was most excited to see was the guitar case stood up in the corner of the living room! I had asked Santa for an accoustic guitar and I was so happy to receive it! After eating breakfast we got to open our gifts. I started off by opening my stocking. I got lots of fruit and chocolate and some small presents (a crossword puzzle book, collector coin etc.) After going through my stocking the very first thing I did was open the guitar case. I just had to get a look at the guitar I had gotten. I had hoped for a purple one (because purple is my favorite color) but it was a dark red kinda mahogany ish color. I still thought it looked cool. I didn’t notice til earlier but in the bottom compartment of my guitar case were some guitar picks! There was a purple one!! That made me happy! Another thing that made me happy was the George Jones CD my parents bought me. I love George Jones. He’s written some absolutely beautiful songs. He’s one of my favorite singers! I was very upset when he passed. I’m glad that I have that CD now to keep his memory alive. When Mom took a picture of me with it I told her that I just had to hold it close to my heart because that’s how much it meant to me. I got some great movies from Santa Claus this year. He brought me “Horrible Bosses” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnzIA-yu268, “Dodgeball” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUpzAw5Kw7M and “Phantom of the Opera” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44w6elsJr_I. Those are such great movies and I can’t wait to watch them! I also got “Rod: The Autobiography”. Rod Stewart is also one of my favorite singers and I’ve been wanting to read his autobiography since it came out. I’m so glad that Santa brought it to me! I’m very happy with all the gifts I received and I enjoyed watching my family open their gifts. I was glad that everyone liked the gifts that I bought them. We’ll be having Christmas dinner soon. I can smell it right now and it’s amazing! I can’t wait to eat it! Merry Christmas blog world! God bless us, everyone!

Spirit Christmas Luncheon

Hey blog world! I just got home from seeing Spirit of Newfoundland’s Christmas luncheon. My Mom, Grandpa and I went. I can’t quite remember the last time I went out and saw a concert with my Grandpa so it was nice to get out with him today. We got to the Masonic Temple quite early. So early in fact that we were the first guests there! It was only us and a bunch of the employees. I said to Mom “We’re really early! I wonder if Peter, Shelley and Janet (the performers who were going to be in the show) are even here yet?” Kathie Hicks (the CEO of Spirit) told me that unfortunately Peter and Shelley wouldn’t be singing today. I was a bit disappointed but I love Janet Cull’s singing so I was still quite happy that I’d get to hear her. Kathie told us to have a seat in the Screech Room (a room full of Purity products, Screech and Screech memorabilia and history where you can sit and have a drink before the show) and she’d get us something to drink. By the time we had finished our drinks it was time to head in and sit down for the meal. Usually Spirit of Newfoundland has a menu but this time was different. It was a buffet. For the appetizer there was a salad bar, a variety of breads and turkey soup. I took a few pieces of bread, some pasta salad and I made my own little salad as well with tomatoes, parmesan cheese and feta cheese. I thought the pasta salad tasted very good. As did the salad I put together. I think I overdid it on the parmesan though LOL! A while after eating my salad I looked out into the hallway and saw the back of someone’s head. It looked very familiar to me. I wasn’t entirely sure if it was him but I was at least 50% sure that it was Peter Halley Peter Halley(the artistic director of Spirit of Newfoundland who was supposed to be in the show but as I said earlier wasn’t.) I went out to look and sure enough in the  Screech Room there he was. A huge smile came across my face! I went back to my table and got the gift I had for him then went to see him in the Screech Room to give it to him. I handed him the box I had put it in and he thought it was sweet how I had written “Merry Christmas Peter” on it. He then opened it and took out the ornament I made for him and looked at it. He loved it! I was so glad he did! We then talked for a bit. He said that as a Christmas gift to me he’d see if he could adjust my bill. I thought that was a very nice thing for him to do. I then went back to my table and sat down. Pretty soon it was time for the main course. We had a choice of a cod bake or stuffed chicken. I’ve had the stuffed chicken at Spirit several times and always enjoy it so that’s what I ordered. As usual I loved it! It tasted really good. It came with mashed carrots, broccoli and mashed potatoes. I found the carrot was quite peppery. I didn’t really like it. I enjoyed the mashed potatoes and broccoli though. During the meal I saw Janet Cull (the woman performing in the show) out in the hallway and I had something for her as well so I went out and gave it to her. I had a Christmas card and tree ornament for her. I was very happy that she liked them. She gave me a hug as well. I liked getting a hug from her. Later on the show began. Janet is a very cool person. She has an amazing sense of fashion and astounding jazzy vocals. I love watching her perform. She sang lots of great songs like “Rocking Around The Christmas Tree” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnIqLlBwzrc and “Mary’s Boy Child” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7-4GC828rM. She also sang “When A Child Is Born” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGMky4tVN7c. It’s such a pretty song and Janet did an absolutely beautiful job of singing it! I thought that it was really cute when she got her son Jack (I’m not sure how old he is but he looks about 5 or 6) up to sing “Jingle Bells” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uFQnYsDr20 with her. Janet said that if we had any requests to just shout them out. I put my hand up and she called on me and I asked if she could sing “Where Are You Christmas” by Faith Hill http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmGSHZYZ74c and she didn’t know that one. I then asked for “Grown Up Christmas List” by Amy Grant http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmF2rsDHOZc and she didn’t know that one either! Finally I tried asking for “The Mummers Song” by Simani http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E86bcriRtW8. She didn’t know it very well so she asked me to come up and help. I was beyond thrilled that I was invited up on stage to sing! The keyboardist found the right key for me and I sung. I was having so much fun! Peter came in as I was singing and he had an adorable look of surprise on his face. I waved at him and smiled. When I got to “There’s only one there that I thinks that I know” I pointed at Peter and he pulled his hat down and pretended to be a mummer. He was quite silly! He continued to pretend to be a mummer throughout the rest of the song. I loved it. When I was done everyone clapped. It made me feel awesome! I took a bow and then got another hug from Janet. I came down off the stage and Peter told me that I did great! He’s my idol. I have a very special place in my heart for him. Hearing him tell me I did a good job made me feel really special. I had a ginormous grin on my face from the fun I just had and the applause and compliments I’d just received. Later on a waitress stopped by my table and handed me a Screech cake and rum sauce wrapped up with a note and a pretty fake poinsettia 180. It was a special gift from Peter since he couldn’t adjust the bill since Mom had already paid. I read the note he had written and it was beautiful. I thought it was very kind of him to do this for me. I was so full of happiness from this and from being up on stage. So much so that I cried happy tears. After calming down and drying my happy tears I tried to have a bit of desert. I was absolutely full from everything else though. I had a peanut butter ball. It was yummy! After a few more songs the show was unfortunately over. I had an incredible time and thought that the show was amazing! I went over to Janet who was still up on stage and we got a picture together 179. Then I said goodbye and it was time to go. As I was leaving a lady stopped me and told me that she really enjoyed my singing and that I should consider a career in music! It made me feel great hearing that. I then went into the bar and gave Kathie the Christmas card that I had for Shelley hoping that she would be able to give it to her for me. She said she would. I hope that when she gets it she likes it! I had an unforgettable day at Spirit of Newfoundland today and will definitely never forget it! Have you ever been to a Spirit of Newfoundland show? Did you enjoy yourself? Tell me in the comments!

Bedroom Barricade

Hey blog world! This morning like I always do I got up to go look and see where Patches was. I opened my bedroom door and got quite the surprise. The little imp had put ribbons all around my door making it hard for me to get out Elf On The Shelf 008! I was not too happy with Patches for what he’d done. I really hope he’s able to behave himself tomorrow!

Naughty Or Nice

Hey blog world! Today I found Patches in the kitchen. He had written a naughty or nice list on the chalk board Elf On The Shelf 007. My Niece, my Mom and I made the nice list but Dad and Barbie were on the naughty list. Dad’s there because Patches hasn’t forgotten the night he had his head turned backwards by Dad becaue he didn’t like how Patches stared at him. Barbie is probably there because of yesterday’s little escapade up on the ceiling fan. I figured that I’d make the nice list. I’m on it each year. I was glad I’m on it once again. What list do you think you’ve made this year? Tell me in the comments!

Love Up Above

Hey blog world! This is the 3rd day Patches has been in our home. This morning me and my Niece went looking everywhere for him and had no firetrucking clue where he was! We couldn’t see him anywhere! We looked in the kitchen and Mom laughed at us hysterically unable to believe we couldn’t see him. She said he was there in the kitchen and to look hard but we couldn’t see him. Eventually after looking up high enough we found the little mischief maker up on the ceiling fan Elf On The Shelf 002!!! He had brought some friends too. There were 3 Barbie dolls up there with him! Also if you look close enough at the picture you’ll notice that he’s being pretty romantic with one of those Barbie’s because he’s kissing her hand! I think it’s sweet that he likes her. I think they would make a very cute couple.
