Hey blog world! Tonight I went to see a concert. I saw “Do You Hear The People Sing”. It was a fundraiser concert for Atlantic Light Theatre’s production of “Les Misérables”. Usually when I go to a concert either my Mom or Dad will go with me but not this time. Mom wasn’t able to go and Dad can’t stand musical theatre so I decided to ask Miss Wheadon. Miss Wheadon is a student assistant at my school. She works in the special needs classroom. I see her everyday at recess and lunch. Also I see her outside of school because she coaches my Special Olympics bowling team. Everytime I get tickets to something she’ll always jokingly ask me “What time am I picking you up?” I figured that this time since neither of my parents could go I’d finally let her have her fun and ask her to go with me. She was absolutely thrilled the day I told her! Her eyes lit up and she hugged me and didn’t let go for a while LOL! I was so excited tonight when I saw her car pull into my driveway. I couldn’t wait to get out and see the show with her. It was held at a place I’d never been to before. the D.F Cook recital hall. It’s at MUN (Memorial University of Newfoundland). It took me and Miss Wheadon an HOUR to find it! We had to ask several people for directions (most of the people we stopped were quite ignorant and wouldn’t talk to us.) Eventually we did find it and we still had time to spare. I was really happy because there were 2 front row seats that weren’t taken! We sat down in them right away. I got more and more excited as 8:00 (the time the show began) drew nearer. When it was finally time for the show to start I got even more excited. To start off the show Peter Halley and Shelley Neville (two of my most favorite people (who will very coincidentaly be playing two of my most favorite characters in “Les Misérables” the Thénardiers)) opened the show with the “All In The Family” theme song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1F9vRVyV914. I heard them sing the song before at Spirit of Newfoundland’s “Go Duet Yourself” dinner theatre. They do an absolutely great job of singing it and I was so glad to get to hear it again. After them was a medley of songs from “Oliver”. To begin the medley was “Consider Yourself” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkwUq8VHWJo. It’s my favorite song from “Oliver” so I loved getting to hear it! They had the 3 children in the show sing it. Megan Moret (who will be playing young Cosette), Lauren Davis (who will be playing young Eponine) and Nicholas Keough (who will be playing Gavroche). I’d heard Nicholas and Lauren sing before. They’re both great singers and I thought they did wonderful tonight! It was my first time hearing Megan. I thought she did a wonderful job as well. I loved their dancing as well. The dance moves were really cute! Next in the medley was “Oompah pah” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8ee9qq9ECc. It’d been a long time since I’d seen “Oliver” last so I couldn’t remember this song. I liked it though. Next was “As Long As He Needs Me” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DtlQ2Vlygc. It was beautiful. The final song in the medley was “Who Will Buy” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IW6CfSQIzOk. I like that song as well. I sang along with it because I knew all the words. Next was another familiar voice. Erin Winsor. She played Mary in Theatre St Johns’s production of “Mary Poppins” in September and in Febuary she’ll be playing Eponine in “Les Misérables”. I love her voice! She sang “The Wizard and I” from “Wicked” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72A4VG_3aiI. I was absolutely floored by her performance! I felt like I was right there in Oz! Then was a song from “Chess” called “I Know Him So Well” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svzLLlgorOc. I thought the girls that sang it did an excellent job. After that was “Sophie’s Aria” from “Werther” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQ31fBisPTY. Noelle Slaney sang this song. She blew me away with her amazing operatic voice! Although I liked the song I couldn’t understand much of it. It was in French. I speak French quite fluently but Noelle was going so fast I couldn’t pick out much of what she was saying. At least the song was pretty! Then my friend Darrin Martin (who will be playing Marius) sang. He has such an incredible voice! He sang “You Raise Me Up” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJxrX42WcjQ. Again I was floored! I was trying not to cry. He was that good! After that was a very pretty duet from “Little Women” called “Some Things Are Meant To Be” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J55z8FUD6hg. I really enjoyed it. Next was another opera piece. “Toreador” from “Carmen” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5qmSEvDEGs. I somewhat recognised the chorus. The tune was familliar but the words however not so much. The man singing this was Calvin Powell. He’ll be playing inspector Javert in “Les Misérables”. I liked his voice too. He sounded great when he sang. Then there was a song from “Miss Saigon” called “Sun and Moon” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqqvXwSVgXg. Then there was a song from “A Secret Garden” called “Lily’s Eyes” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8MKSuAU5sI. I read the names of the people who would be singing it and Jonathan Hunt was one of them. I didn’t realize who he was at first but when he came out things began to click. I instantly recognised him and was like “Oh yeah! I remember who he is now!” He’s my Mom’s co workers son and he tutored me (for a month). I’ve seen him in several different productions and love to hear him sing. I was gladly surprised that I got to hear him tonight! Then was a song called “Broadway Baby” from “Follies” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gl40NIfA_I. It was funny! All the girls were pushing eachother around and fighting to be in the spotlight. They were blocking poor Megan who was trying to get her chance and be seen. I cracked up laughing! After that song was the intermission. I got up out of my seat and decided to walk around a bit. I left my purse at my seat. I exited the auditorium and the first thing I see is Peter. I had something for him so I ran back to my seat to get it and ran back quickly hoping not to miss him. I didn’t! I went up to him, said hello and gave him the sympathy card I’d made for him. I’d been nervous for days hoping he would like it and I’m so glad that he did. He even gave me a hug! I love Peter’s hugs! I also got him to sign an autograph for my friend. I go to school with a girl with down syndrome and you should see the look on her face every time Peter’s name gets mentioned. Her eyes light up, she has an extremely wide grin on her face, she flails her arms, jumps up and down and squeals. She loves him just as much as I do! I told her that I couldn’t make any promises but I’d try and get her an autograph. I can’t wait to see her face when I give it to her. I can almost picture it right now. I just know she’s going to love me for this! I got to see Janet Cull as well. She’s the lady I job shadowed. It was great seeing her again. I was glad she remembered me. After speaking with her and Peter and Shelley me and Miss Wheadon headed back to our seats to watch the next part of the show. To begin part 2 was “Climb Every Mountain” from “The Sound Of Music” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoCPuhhE6dw. Was it ever beautiful! The 3 girls that sang it had such harmonious and pretty voices. Next was a funny song. “She Loves Me” from “She Loves Me” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjkNH2mfSK0. The man who sang it did an absolutely hillarious job. His facial expressions, sound effects, everything about his performance was so funny! Next was a song called “Flight” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0DCoy1MrpM. I thought it was a very nice song. Then it was Janet’s turn to perform. She sang Roy Orbison’s “Crying” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSrdWK4t3XY. “Crying” is such a pretty song. It’s one of my favorites. I thought Janet did a wonderful job of performing it. I’m sure Roy would have been proud. Next was an amazing a capella (that means without music) performance of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” from “Wizard of OZ” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSrdWK4t3XY. I’m used to hearing it with piano in the background. I had never heard it sung a capella before. I thought it sounded even prettier that way. Next was a song called “Being Alive” from “Company” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjrA93_O6Dw. The person who sang this song played the piano as he sang. I really liked that. Next up was Peter and Shelley again! I was thrilled to get to hear them perform once more. They came out in costumes this time! They were old people LOL! Shelley looked very pretty in her outfit. I liked what Peter had on as well. They did a scene and song from “I Love You Your Perfect Now Change”. Margaret (Shelley) was at a wake and Barry (Peter) was there as well. He didn’t know who the deceased person was. He just came early for the 4:30 wake he was to be attending. He begins hitting on Margaret. I thought that was funny. The song they sang (“I Can Live With That” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUgIzK39iXE) was quite funny as well. After them was a song from “Cinderella” called “Loneliness of Evening” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bga_KoAZW34. This was a duet sung by Kiersten Noel (who will be playing Fantine) and Timothy Matson (who will be playing Enjolras). I’d seen Timothy before on the Stanley Braxton YouTube chanel (I highly reccommend watching “Boris” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WAEzr9XEjk. It’s awesome!) I knew he was a hillarious improver but I didn’t know how well he could sing. I was amazed at how good he sounded! Kiersten did a very good job as well. Then Calvin did another song. “When A Felon” from “Pirates of Penzance” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzSTTTCOHr4. He was funny! He used a funny voice (and also a lot of big words LOL!) He also moved around a lot and jumped a bit too. I found that funny as well. Then Darrin Martin came back on to sing “Last Night of the World” from “Miss Saigon” with Erin Winsor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-tM8J86xtw. Separately these two are amazing but put together they’re even better. I couldn’t get over how firetrucking incredible they sounded! I can’t wait to hear them sing “A Little Fall Of Rain” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyPy2Iqq-NM together in “Les Misérables”. I just know it’s going to sound absolutely beautiful! Next was another funny song called “Lydia the Tattooed Lady” by Groucho Marx http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4zRe_wvJw8. That was really funny as well! I really liked it! To end off the show the entire cast sang the Epilogue (or in other words the finale) from “Les Misérables” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_afrqUtzrF0. It’s one of my favorite songs from the show and the cast did a marvellous job. All the different voices blending together absolutely astounded me! It was perfect! As soon as the song ended I stood up and clapped. They deserved a standing ovation! When the cast left the stage and it was time to go I wanted to get a few pictures with people before I left. I first stopped to talk to Timothy. Myself being a fellow improver I wanted a bit of advice from him. I’ve been trying for 2 years to make my school’s improv team and haven’t succeeded yet. I figured that since he was a pro I’d ask him for some advice for next year when I try out. He told me to do my best and keep at it. I’ll definately take that advice and hopefully next year I’ll make the team! We then got a picture together . Next I stopped to talk to Lauren. I will forever remember her as the epic “22” kid from Newfoundland to Broadway. Taylor Swift has a song called “22” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgFeZr5ptV8 and I’m guessing that Lauren really likes that song because when we’d go outside we’d always do a roll call and her number was 22. Instead of just saying 22 she’d sing the song. I loved that about her! It made her awesome! She remembered that too! She also remembered me! I was glad that she did. Then I got to talk to Darrin for a bit. He told me how much he liked my Eponine Halloween costume and that it looked very convincing and that he didn’t have his keys on him to show me but he was using the keychain I made for him! It made me feel special hearing that. It was really nice to know that he liked his keychain and was using it. I got to give him a hug and get a picture with him too ! Then I spoke with Peter and Shelley again. I got another hug from Peter (as I said earlier I love his hugs so I was extatic that I got 2) and I also got a picture with him and Shelley . Then it was time to go. I was sad to leave because I had such an incredible night at the concert and loved every single minute of it! At least I get to see all these incredible performers again in Febuary when I go see “Les Misérables”! Miss Wheadon and I went to Tim Hortons after the show. I got a hot choclate and donut and she got a coffee. It was nice to sit down with her and converse over our little snack. We talked about the show, school and other things. I really enjoyed our conversation. After that it was finally time to return home. I had the most incredible night out tonight and I can’t wait to see everyone again in “Les Misérables”. I will leave you tonight with some very inspiring words from the show. “For the wretched of the earth there is a flame that never dies, even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise”.
