Newfie Music

Hey blog world! Here in Newfoundland we have our own special brand of music. I love listening to it! Here are some of my favorite Newfoundland songs!

“I Had A Hat” by Shanneyganock This is a song about a guy named Casey who wears his new hat to a wake and someone steals it and he goes on a big rampage! It’s so funny!

Aunt Martha’s Sheep by Dick Nolan This is another funny song about a group of people who have stolen sheep from their Aunt Martha. She finds out and calls the RCMP. The Mountie arrives when they’re cooking up the mutton so they tell the Mountie it’s moose so they won’t get caught. He believes them and eats it nad has no clue he’d just eaten the stolen sheep!

“If Anything Happened To You” by the Ennis Sisters My Dad used to sing me this song all the time when I was little. I loved it!

“The Newfie Stomp” By Roy Pat This is such a fun dance to do!

“West Country Lady” by Dermot O’Rielly This is such a pretty song!

“The Pits” by Buddy Wassisname and the Other Fellers This is Newfoundland’s May 24th anthem! I love the song and the music video is really good too!

“Saltwater Joys” by Wayne Chaulk Wayne Chaulk (a memeber of Buddy Wassisname and the Other Fellers) wrote this song and it’s amazing! I’ve heard them sing it live several times before and it sounds beautiful!

“Kelligrews Soiree” by Johnny Burke Every year in Kelligrews (a part of CBS) we have the Keligrews soiree. It’s a week long event celebrating Kelligrews. It’s lots of fun! This song was written for the event and it’s become very popular!

“Ode To Newfoundland” by Governer Sir Cavendish Boyle This is Newfoundland’s anthem.

“When I’m Up (I Can’t Get Down)” by Great Big Sea I hear this song on the radio a lot! I love singing along and dancing in my seat!

Are you from Newfoundland? What’s your favorite Newfie song? Tell me in the comments!
