Highlights of 2012

Hey blog world! Today is the last day of 2012! I thought I’d end off the year by sharing with you some of my favorite things that I’ve done this year!

  • See “Les Miserables”: Yesterday I saw “Les Miserables” in theaters! I was totally blown away! At the end of the film I was speechless! It was such an incredible, powerfull and emotional film! I totally reccommend you see it!
  • Make pie for the first time: Last week (I think) I made my very first pie! It was coconut cream! That’s my favorite kind! It was kinda hard to make but it tasted really really good!
  • Sing into the mic at “Forever Young”: I will never forget the night Mom and I saw “Forever Young”! It was an incredible show and I got to sing into the mic! I felt so honoured and special!
  • My first dance party: I threw my very first dance party for my birthday in November! It was so much fun (accept for the part when my friend popped out her knee)!
  • Hugging Chris De Burgh: I will never forget the night I saw Chris De Burgh at the Mile 1 Center with my Dad! Getting hugged by him was awesome!
  • YC: I went to my very 1st YC (Youth for Christ) and loved it! It was so much fun!
  • Performing my monologue in Drama class: In drama we recently finished a unit on monologues. We each had to pick a monologue and perform it in front of the class. I chose to do this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjCSQkQYCcs from the movie “The Adams Family Values”. It was so much fun being a bad guy!
  • Winning a gold medal: I forget what I won it for (I think it was highest points over average) but I was thrilled when I received my gold medal at Special Olympics bowling during the summer!
  • Quebec: I got to go to Quebec with my school and I had a great time! The best part was definately the dog sledding!
  • Social Thinking: I joined the Social Thinking group at the Elaine Dobbin center and I’m really glad I did! I made a lot of new friends and learned a lot too!
  • Making cake pops: I made my first cake pops with my Aunt and they tasted really yummy!
  • Connects Got Talent: my Youth Group had a talent show back in June and I did 2 things. I did some improv and sang “The Impossible” by Joe Nichols http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ce-pUKsJM6w. I won 2nd place! I felt great!
  • Winning the “Kiss You I Hardly Know You” award! At the grade 9 farewell I won that award! My Math teacher gave it to me because I’d ask for a tissue every math class! Not only did I get an award but also my prize was a box of tissues (which I’ve vowed to never EVER use!)
  • Camping in Gross Mourne: I went there during the summer with my Family and it was the first time I was ever there! It’s such a beautiful place and I had tons of fun!
  • Be Elle Woods: I was Elle Woods this year for Halloween and I think it was probably my best costume yet!
  • Being on the Janeway Telethon: 2012 was my 6th year in a row of being on the Telethon! This year I donated $167.50! It was a great accomplishment!
  • Finding out me and Richard Dawson Richard Dawson share a birthday: I looked him up on Wikipidia one day to get some info for a blog post and I was thrilled when I saw his birthday! We have the same one! I’m a huge fan of his and it feels so cool knowing that we share a birthday!

What were your favorite things you did this year? Tell me in the comments!

“Monsters Inc” Review

Hey blog world! Yesterday me and my friend E went to Empire Theaters to see “Monsters Inc” in 3D! Years ago when I think I was either 7 or 8 my Aunt and Uncle took me to see my very first movie in the theater. It was “Monsters Inc”! I was so glad to get to see it in theaters again but this time in 3D! I hadn’t seen it in years! I loved every minute of the movie! For those of you who don’t know what “Monsters Inc” is it’s about a town called Monstropolis which is inhabited entirely by monsters. The power source of Monstropolis is the screams of children. There’s a big corporation called Monsters Inc (thus the name of the film) that produces these screams by going into childrens rooms at night and scaring them. One day a little girl named Boo Boo accidentaly escapes from the human world into Monstropolis and it’s up to Sully Sully 2 (who’s fault it was she escaped) and his best friend Mike Mike 2 to find her door and bring her back into the human world! My favorite part in this movie was when they performed “Put That Thing Back Where It Came From Or So Help Me” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqaHBfBSSuc. If they put that thing on broadway I think it’d definately win a Tony! Have you seen it in 3D? If you did did you like it better than the original or not? Tell me in the comments!

Snooks Childhood

Hey blog world! For Christmas Santa brought me a Snook CD! It’s called Snook’s Childhood (or Snook ruins a bunch of kids songs)”. I put it on last night and thought it was really funny! Some of the songs he parodied were “Pop Goes The Weasel” (his version was “Pop Got The Measles”), “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” (his version was “Twinkle Twinkle AB Sheep” (which was about how “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” “The Alphabet Song” and “Bah Bah Black Sheep” all had the same tune”) and also “If Your Happy And You Know It” (his version was “If Your Something”). Out of all of them “If Your Something” is my favorite! THe funniest parts were “If your Dad is wicked tired eat some sugar and get wired” and “If the neighbors think your weird go moo”! He also told a few stories. He parodied “Peter and The Wolf” and called it “Dougie and The Dog” and he also wrote his own story called “The Chubbly Pear”. I really liked that one. It was a story about a dude who loved to eat fruit. One day he goes to the store and buys a lot of fruit. One of the things he buys is a chubbly pear. The chubbly pear causes a lot of problems for the man because while he goes to work the pear eats all the fruit. When the man goes to buy mnore fruit the pear eats his cat. The pear also eats the man, the mans house and the list could go on and on. To make a long story short the pear keeps eating everything until all that’s left of the world is one white dot. He gets closer to it to try and it eat too but the dot is another chubbly pear who eats the other pear LOL! I loved this CD and I highly reccommend it! You can get it online at http://www.rightonsnook.com or you can go out and buy it (I’m not sure which stores sell it though!) Did you get any CD’s for Christmas? If so what ones? Tell me in the comments!

“Rock Of Ages” Movie Review

Hey blog world! Last night Mom and I had  a girls night. We watched “Rock Of Ages” together! “Rock Of Ages” is a movie adaptation of the broadway musical. I saw it while I was in New York and thought it was amazing! The movie was amazing as well! In fact it was “Nothin’ But A Good Time”! It followed 2 young people (who I’d say were maybe in their twenties) named Dan and Sherry. Dan and his band Wolfgang Von Colt played gigs at the local bar (I forget what it was called) and Sherry moved to LA from Oklahoma to become a singer. I forget the names of the 2 guys who owned the bar that Dan and his band played at but I know that the actors who played them were Russel Brand (“Get Him To The Greek”, “Bedtime Stories”) and Alec Baldwin (“30 Rock”, “The Cat In The Hat”.) I had no idea they were such good singers! They did a duet of “Can’t Fight This Feeling” by REO Speedwagon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpOULjyy-n8 and Mom said that it completely ruined the song but I loved it! I thought they were great! Also Tom Cruise was in this movie. He played rock star Stacey Jaxx. While doing an interview for a magazine he sang “Wanted Dead Or Alive” by Bon Jovi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VD3pBTK0oA to the reporter and I thought he was also great! All the singing in the movie was! I thought it was so cute when at the beginning of the movie when everyone was singing “Sister Christian” by Night Ranger http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z92bmlcmyq0 to Sherry while she was on the bus a little girl turned around in her seat and sang the line “You’ll be alright tonight”! It was the most adorable scene in the movie! One thing I noticed about the songs used in the film was that there were some that were in the musical on broadway and  not in the movie. For example on broadway Dan sang “Oh Sherry” by Steve Perry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oN80al-7BI after Sherry dumped him when he accused her of having an afair with Stacey. They didn’t use the song in the movie. Also “The Final Countdown” by Europe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jK-NcRmVcw was in the musical but they didn’t use it in the film either.  I wonder why not? Out of all of them my favorite song in the movie was definately the medley of “We Built This City” by Jefferson Starship and “We’re Not Gonna Take It” by Twisted Sister http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALrlB88mvi0. I felt bad for the poor news reporter who had to run back and forth to get what everyone had to say but even though I felt bad I laughed! In the movie not only were there humans. There was also an animal! Stacey Jaxx owned a pet monkey he named Hey Man. Hey Man was kinda Stacey’s personal buttler because Stacey would always be asking him to get him scotch. He’s a very termpremental monkey. He throws things (mainly Stacey’s empties) at people! Don’t get on Hey Man’s bad side! Have you seen this movie or the musical? If so tell me your favorite part in the comments! Keep on rocking blog world!

Concert Movies I’d Like To See

Hey blog world! There are a lot of artists out there who have filmed concert movies! like Kenny Chesney (“Summer In 3D”), Katy Perry (“Part Of Me”) and even the wiggles (“The Wiggles Big Big Show In The Round” (which by the way I took my Neice to see and I really enjoyed it!) There are a lot of artists who if they made a concert movie I’d love to go see! Here they are!

YC: I went to YC last year and it was amazing! They broadcasted it live on NTV so I thought why not film it and put it in theaters! It’d be great for those who mised out because then they’d get the chance to go to the theater and see what they missed! Also it’d be great for those who loved it so much they wanted to see it again!

Brad Paisley: If he made a concert movie I would absolutely be first in line for tickets! He’s so hot on TV and on magazine covers! I can’t imagine how much hotter he’d be on the big screen (especially if it were 3D!)

Chris De Burgh: This would be the ultimate concert movie! If Chris ever makes one I would dress all in red to see it! I’d also take my friend E (who is a fellow blogger and her site by the way is www.ejmsmiles.wordpress.com) along with me because she is a huge Chris De Burgh fan as well!

Weird Al Yankovic: This guy is so funny! I’d love to see his crazy self on the big screen someday!

The Imagination Movers: I don’t care how old I am! I love rocking out to the movers and their music! I think it’d be really cool if they made a concert movie! I bet Warehouse Mouse would look even cuter on the big screen!

Snook: This I would love to see! Snook (a.k.a Pete Soucy) is super funny and he definately deserves his big break! I think it’d be awesome (or wicked as Snook would say) if Dougie joined him! I’d finally get to see what he looks like!

Which artists do you think should make a concert movie? If any of the ones I mentioned made one would you see it? Tell me in the comments!

Christmas Day

Hey blog world! I’m writing this post on my awesome new purple laptop that Santa brought me! It was wrapped in beautiful golden wrapping paper and I was thrilled to find a big brown box marked HP when I unwrapped it! I knew what was in it instantly and was so happy to receive my new laptop! Now I can use the computer when others are on the one in my room! I woke up really early this morning to open my presents! So early in fact my parents sent me back to bed! I got up at 4:00 this morning because I was so anxious but I was told to go back to sleep. I got up again at 5:00 and once again was told to go back to sleep. I woke up AGAIN at 6:00 and managed to get away with it! I looked under the tree and found lots of boxes and bags and I couldn’t wait to find out what they were! I had rice krisipies with strawberries and bananas for breakfast then the time finally came to open up our gifts! I didn’t notice it when I first went in but my Neice pointed out 2 green bags hanging from the tree. Mom took them down and attached to the bags were notes from our elf on the shelf named Patches (for more on Patches and his mischief check out the post “Elf On The Shelf”!) He’d written us goodbye note (since elves on the shelf have to go back to Santa on Christmas Eve) and inside the bags he’d left presents for us! I got a mars bar (my favorite kind) and a silver heart hair clip with rhinestones! My Neice got a reces pieces bar and a hair clip as well (I think hers was a fish. I can’t remember.) Then we got to open our stockings! I found lots of yummy chocolates and fruits, a bottle of cranbery juice and a Ripley’s Believe It Or Not 2013 page a day calendar! I love reading the books so I thought the calendar was pretty cool! After I’d finisished looking through my stocking I moved onto the bounty of gifts underneath the tree! I got loads of awesome stuff this year! “Snook’s Childhood (Or Snook Ruins A Bunch Of Kids Songs)” (I now have all 3 of Snook’s CD’s), the first season of “Scrubs” on DVD (which I was extatic to recieve because “Scrubs” is firetrucking hillarious), Guinness world records 2013, movie pases (one of which I will definately use to go see “Les Miserables” http://www.youtube.com/user/UniPicturesCanada?v=2-cq1MjEP5g and lots of other goodies too! My Neice was really sneaky again this year. Last year she took my Minnie Mouse door sign off my door, wrapped it up and gave it to me for Christmas. This year she did it AGAIN! Also she took the little stocking I made when I was in Brownies, wrapped it up and gave it to me too! I couldn’t believe she did it again this year! She got lots of gifts this year and enjoyed opening them! She really liked the puppet that I gave her (it was a princess named Princess Catherine Casstlehoff)! I enjoyed watching my sister and parents open their presents (although Dad didn’t get to open many because my wild beast of a Neice opened some of them on him because she was tired of waiting for him to take them from her.) I also liked getting to share Dad’s chocolates with him (he got a box of Toffeffes and shared them with us!) I can’t wait til later on because my Grandparents are coming over for Christmas dinner! We’re having a big turkey diner with vegetables, dressing and salt meat! It’s gonna be yummy (accept for the turkey. I don’t like turkey.) What did you get for Christmas this year? Tell me in the comments!

Homegrown Talent

Hey blog world! Here in Newfoundland there are a lot of talented people! Today I thought I’d share with you some of my favorite Newfoundland celebrities!

Snook Snooks Christmas: Snook (a.k.a Peter Soucy) is a comedian and also singer. He makes parodies of songs. He’s got 2 Christmas albums out where he obviously parodies Christmas songs and he’s also got a CD where he in his own words “Ruins a bunch of kids songs!” I have both his Christmas CD’s and I love them! The first one is definately the best! I used to drive my parents nuts with it cause I’d play it year round! He’s also on the news! Every Thursday he does “Stuff About Stuff” it’s basically his comentary on different things! You can also catch Snook’s alter ego Pete Soucy each night on VOCM’s nightline! Right on! Want more info on Snook? Go to www.rightonsnook.com!

Spirit Of Newfoundland Spirit NL ABBA: Spirit Of Newfoundland is a dinner theater company! I’ve been to lots of their shows and they’re so amazing! As is the food! My favorite Spirit of NL dinner theater that I’ve seen was “ABBA Gotta Get The Scoop”! It was about 4 reporters trying to get the scoop on ABBA for their newspaper! It was really funny! The singing was incredible too! I got to meet the cast afterwards and they were super nice people! If you want more info on Spirt Of Newfoundland go to www.spiritofnewfoundland.com

Mark Critch Mark Critch: He’s a comedian and also is on “This Hour Has 22 Minutes”. I got to meet him last year when he interviewed me on the Janeway Telethon! He’s so nice and even funnier in person! I also got to see him do stand up 2 years ago at the Newfoundland Screech Comedy Fest (for more info on the festival see the blog post “Newfoundland Screech Comedy Fest”!) He was great!

Gordon Pinsent Gordon Pinsent: Some of you may recognise him as Hap Shaugnassey from “The Red Green Show” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsKgNg9NPxs and also maybe some of you may not know his face but you probably know his voice Babar! He’s the voice of King Babar! I’m not much of a “Babar” fan but I LOVED “The Red Green Show”! Hap was one of my favorite characters! He’d always tell tall tales to make himself sound cooler! For example he once said that he did all the tap dancing for Fred Astaire and Fred just faked it while a recording of Hap’s tap dancing was playing in the background! I don’t know how he manages to come up with these tall tales but they sure are interesting!

Kelly-Ann Evans Kelly-Ann Evans: Kelly is a singer! She does tribute shows at the Arts and Culture Center! I’ve been to 2 (and in Febuary it’ll be 3) of her shows and they were awesome! I saw her tribute to ABBA and Rod Stewart (and am going to see her tribute to Queen) and they were awesome shows! My favorite was definately the Rod Stewart one (for more info on that show see the blog post “Forever Young”)! One of the reasons that’s my favorite is because she let me sing into the microphone during “Hot Legs” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHcjjxYbgNM! Not only is her singing awesome but her fashion sense is too! She wears the most elaborate and awesome outfits at her shows! I loved the zebra print jacket she wore in “Forever Young” (that was the name of the Rod Stewart tribute she did!)

What are some of your favorite celebrities that are from where your from? Tell me in the comments!
